Checkpoint.io
Checkpoint is a ground-breaking app that allows gamers to review and track their favourite games. Users can track their progress such as completion, achievements, what level they’re on, and hours played. Users can also leave reviews of the games they’ve played, and read others reviews, with a trending section to show the hottest reviews.
Logo Marks
Concept
Checkpoint wanted their brand to feel sharp and modern, but with recognition to old school gaming. I created a sharp letter-mark for the C in Checkpoint, and added 4 cubes in the centre of the letter-mark to represent the directional pad on classic gaming controllers. This would stand as the basis for their logo, and for the representation of their brand values.
Website UI and UX
Checkpoint needed a website that would ultimately make users want to come back and track their gaming progress to keep tabs on what they have played. Checkpoint also wanted this app to be a one-stop shop for anything gaming related, such as reviews, news, and a place for the gaming community to feel at home.
Home Page
This is the dashboard for the user, a place where they can see their latest games played, any reviews they’ve recently written, see the amount of hours played etc. I also designed this to be the front page for when a new user visits the site, so I also included a get started page for new users to sign up.
Write a Review
Writing a review is a large part of the Checkpoint eco-system. From here, users can be as passionate or as critical as they want about games they’ve played. This page needed to be more of a form to allow as much detail as possible, but also needed to not be dull or boring to use. There’s no clutter here to stop the users’ thoughts from straying away from their review.
Write a Review with Trending Tab
This page is the same as the review page, but here you can toggle on or off the ‘trending’ drop down tab to see the top most trending reviews.
Community Reviews
From the community reviews page, users can see what other gamers are saying about the games they’ve played. Because Checkpoint wanted a sense of community built straight into the site, I have added likes and comments to reviews. This helps Checkpoint feel more social and interactive, rather than just simply reading a review off of a critic’s website.
Game Library
Within the game library, users can see the progress on the games they have played. Here we also have tabs and a search engine to narrow down on a particular game if a user is struggling to find it. This system helps everything be less cluttered, and helps users order their library. From here, the user can see every bit of data and information they need when tracking their progress.
App Design
Along with the website, I designed the Checkpoint app. A portable companion to ensure you never miss the chance to write down a thought, or read others’ reviews. A chance to always be a part of the gaming community, no matter where you are.
App Store Icon
A mock-up to show what the Checkpoint brand would look like on the app store, notifications, and icon sizing for various devices.
Social Media
Checkpoint needed a head start with their social media to get the word out to the public. I created a strong foundation of designs, colour schemes, and overall emotion and feeling of the Checkpoint brand and what they stand for. From here, Checkpoint can use a variety of templates and designs to ensure their posts are consistent, and always get their message across.
